Holly - (Ilex aquifolium)

Common holly is an evergreen species cultivated since ancient times for its beauty and utility. It is usually grown as a small tree or shrub, but in particularly favorable conditions, it can reach heights of 18 to 21 meters. Female specimens produce the characteristic bright red berries.

As a very hardy species, it thrives in all light exposures, prefers fresh, loose soil, and tolerates pruning well. It can be grown as solitary specimens, in groups, for hedging, or in pots.

Numerous cultivars of Ilex aquifolium exist. Among these, our Plant Center offers: Ilex aquifolium ‘Nelly R. Stevens’ and variegated Ilex aquifolium.
