Euonymus - (Euonymus spp.)
The genus Euonymus comprises approximately 142 evergreen species, ranging from shrubs and dwarf bushes to climbers or small trees. It is precisely this variety of types and growth habits that makes this genus exceptionally versatile. Indeed, the different species are used for multiple purposes, such as ornamental plants, groundcovers, hedges, or vertical borders. They are also highly appreciated for container growing.
They thrive in almost any soil type, with a preference for calcareous soils. The flowers are generally green and of little ornamental interest; the main attraction comes from the very striking, lobed, and often winged fruits. In Italy, a native species commonly found in our woodlands is the famous Spindle Tree (Euonymus europaeus L.).
Regarding exposure, they prefer sunny locations. Furthermore, they have low water requirements and require minimal irrigation.
At our Plant Center, they are available in a wide variety of shapes, species, cultivars, and growth habits.
