Privet – (Ligustrum spp.) - (Ligustrum spp.)
Highly hardy shrubs or small trees, typically evergreen, that tolerate pruning exceptionally well, making them ideal for hedge creation.
They have no specific requirements regarding sun exposure or soil type.
Among the most widely used hedging species are:
L. japonicum: Suitable for medium to tall hedges, featuring persistent evergreen foliage; also ideal for small specimen trees. It boasts very fast growth and is available with both green and variegated leaves.
L. chinensis: Semi-evergreen foliage with rapid growth, perfect for low to medium hedges or borders. In winter, it loses a large portion of its leaves (depending on temperatures). It produces fragrant white flowers and features smaller leaves than L. japonicum.
L. texanum: Evergreen foliage with glossy, leathery leaves that can be either green or variegated. It features white flowers and blue berries. Excellent for planters or large containers, as well as in-ground hedges. Offers good hardiness and resilience.
