Wisteria – Wisteria sinensis

A climbing shrub cultivated for its beautiful, majestic blooms, characterized by long, pendulous racemes of pea-like flowers.

The flowers appear en masse in spring and summer, followed by pod-like fruits. The leaves are 30–40 cm long, pinnate, and alternate, composed of lanceolate leaflets.

They are vigorous and hardy plants that prefer very sunny locations. Annual pruning is recommended to stimulate the development of branches bearing flower buds.

Wisteria sinensis can reach 20 meters or more; it is the most widespread species of the genus Wisteria and also the largest-growing woody climbing plant in Europe. Its flowers appear in April–May and display a lilac-purple color.
