Orange - Citrus x sinensis

Native to China, it is undoubtedly one of the most important species in the genus Citrus for the cultivation of its fruit. Mature specimens can reach heights of 4 to 8 meters. In spring, white and fragrant flowers appear. Depending on the variety, harvesting takes place from November to May. This species prefers loose, well-draining soil in areas with hot summers and mild winters. If grown outside its ideal climate, it will require protection from frost during the winter.

The bitter orange, usually used as rootstock, is the only cold-hardy variety that can be grown outdoors even in northern and central regions.

At our Plant Center, it is available in various trained forms: standard, espalier, and hoop.
